Young Carers Project

Support to children and young people concerned by parental or sibling substance use.

ARE YOU AGED

5 - 18?

DOES SOMEONE IN YOUR FAMILY USE

DRUGS

OR

ALCOHOL?

If you are worried that a parent/carer or a brother/sister is using drugs/alcohol or has in the past, then we are here to help you decide what you can do for yourself.

What is a young carer?

" A young carer is anyone under the age of 18 who's life is in someway restricted because of the need to take responsibility for the care of somewhere who is ill, has a disability, is experiencing mental distress, or is affected by substance use". (Carers UK 1998)

Our team offers a confidential service to children and young people in both a one to one and a group work setting to those who have experienced or are experiencing a parent or sibling who is using substances.

Sometimes it helps to talk to someone other than your parents or family members about any problems you are having, so you can say how you feel without worrying how it may affect them.

What we do?

Give you space and time to talk.
Helps you build your self esteem.
Gives you information on the effects of substances.
Activity days out.
Fun group days.
Keep safe work.

Who can get in touch?

Any child/young person, parent, carer, professional, family member. Anyone in fact can contact the young carers service and we will be happy to discuss the project.
